Now that my Epson Artisan 837 is showing signs that it is about to go into failure mode I was rally caught in a quandary. What to do? Get a refurb 837? Get a printer out of the current generation of printers (seemingly never a good thing to do)? So I decided to snag an MG8220 before there were no longer any to snag.

I would have gotten a 6220 if I was willing to stomach a standalone scanner. But I really did not want to go down that road. I don't use the ADF on the 837 enough to make that a sticking point. The paper trays and feeders are not the strong point of the 837 anyway. Most of my stuff is single page docs. Still and all, since the Canon ADF's actually seem to work, I would have loved it if the 8220 had one.

Anyway, I have some time before I crank up the Canon as the 837 is not dead yet. Any things I should be wary of from you experienced 8220 users? Have you guys had luck with aftermarket ink for them or is it better to play it safe and get the Canon carts?
