Hi Martin,

Yes that is true for my former BCI-6 ink a few inks ago. It clogged my printer heavily. I think it depends on specific inks. It seems Coralgraph is OK for Epson, but not for Canon. Some are good, some are less. Does Arici make the inks themselves or do they purchase from elsewhere?

Hi pharmacist,
the inks are made supposedly by themselves, main customers seems to be refill-shops...informations about the company itself are hard to find.

The opinions in the DC forum are very mixed, mostly critical, only one user (IMO a trusty one: ede-lingen) reports that he has no complaints (at least no more than with others) ... but he also says that pigment from arici is worse than dye...

As I use pigment ink, I was thinking suppliers for large printers (as STS) should be more reliable sources.
Or do Canon/Epson/HP have different formulas for desktop printers ?

Canon and HP use thermal print heads and Epson use piezoelectric print heads. The thermal print heads boil the ink to create a vapour bubble to expel a drop of ink, the piezoelectric print heads expel ink by a pumping action, so inks for HP and Canon might be similar and inks for Epson totally different.

It is recommended to use a refill ink specifically made for your printer make and model. No universal ink should be used.

More specific:

STSINK sells compatible cartridges BCI-1431M for the Canon ImagePROGRAF W6200 etc.
The same (IS) formulation seems to be used (by PrecisionColors) for the Canon Pixma PRO9500.

Or STS continues to make the IS formula, or it delivers their own formula to refillers.

Do I guess correct that as long as they support the ImagePROGRAF's mentionned, I have a good chance to find refill ink for my PRO9500 ?

The Canon 9500 inkset has NOT been discontinued. It is not within their plans, it was a point of discussion.

The statements made by some and reignited by others are causing all kinds of needless anxiety.

IS don't sell small amounts, STS sells cartridges no bulk ink, so both are not for end users / home refillers I think..

But there are several sources for us refillers (precision colors, octoink ...also octopus office and others in europe) who are selling quality ink from well known 3rd party manufacturers (like IS but also OCP and others..)

Why should a new owner cancel well known products from his affiliate...without replacement...don't really understand the fuss...and BTW nobody knows if or when OCP (or inktech or sensient or s...) for example changes ink formulation...

STS was a customer of IS and they marketed IS dye ink for their refill machines. I am sure they saw that they could profit by purchasing IS and make the ink themselves WITHOUT the investment needed to start from the beginning. That is one reason why companies purchase another to gain the already proven formulations and gain other efficiencies. If they were selling a large volume of IS ink and it appears they were, then they could see the benefits of purchasing them if the price was right. Obviously both parties had a win win arrangment of some type for this to occur. Maybe the owner of IS wanted to retire and work 8 hour days like normal people. The sale would allow that there is nothing wrong with that. It is not like they went bankrupt.

Some of IS key production staff were relocated from New York to Florida as well and not to Mexico. Again, these decisions are not purchase of stocks but integration into another company to become a larger stronger entity. So the same people in charge of making the ink before continue to make the ink.

Mike - Any idea about the continuation of the BCI-6 inks?
