Does flushing a cart naturally lead to a top fill refill method?

Been away for a while but still happily printing away on my Pro9000 Mk.II. I now have a number of used CLI-8 carts hanging around and figured it really is time to try a high quality refill ink. In going back through the techniques I watched a couple of the youtube videos showing how to flush the carts. I plan to do that because I want to reprofile my printer once I start using the new inks and if I don't flush them it will take a bit longer (or more! - with red and green) while I wait for the mixed ink to get used up.

So since it seems that the flushing of a cart requires the top ball to be removed, doesn't it make sense at that point to just use a top refill method? Am I missing something obvious?

I would also like to know the answer to your question, and where would one order the plugs to seal the fill holes?

I want to use this method to flush because it looks to be very thorough

so I figure the hole will already be there. :idunno
If you remove the little refill ball from the hole in your cartridge then you have two ways to refill your cartridges.
You either use the top fill or German method the choice is your but
I would suggest you try both methods several time and then decide.:thumbsup

There are several places mentioned where to get these plugs from on this forum but
you didnt mention what part of the country youre in,
also there are two different types of plug as well so can you give some more info.

I think if we go with the ball removal method the 5/32" plugs from Precision Colors will work for CLI-8 carts.

I live Fullerton, CA (near DisneyLand) and plan to use plugs in a Canon PM600, Canon iP6000D, Canon iP6600D, and Canon Pro9000 MK II.
That would be cartridges CLI-8 and BCI-6.

In looking for plugs to plug the ink inlet hole, I found some black rubber balls .160" in diameter. Does anyone have any experience in using these? Also, how could one get them out?

Thank you for all your help, Al
P.S. When I get up to ten posts, I can change my profile.
P.S.S. You might find this (my) post interesting.

You don't need to have an extra hole in the reservoir to flush the sponge unit of your cartridges. Where did that idea come from? But if you have a hole in the side for German refilling, you will have a harder time getting the sponge clean. Why do you want to put any holes in your cartridges when you can flush and refill using the Freedom Refill Method?

I did look through the Freedom thread. I may have missed a post or two but I didn't find a description of how a cart could be flushed as effectively using this method as compared to the video I posted in msg #3 of this thread.
