Hello forum, I'm seeking some help with my Canon MG5550. Today after printing the same 7.5 inch images for over 3 months, my printer decided that it wanted to start re-sizing the shape of my images for me.

(Please see the below image as it'll illustrate exactly what is happening).

As you can see the image shapes are printing distorted :( I've changed the print head and ran every maintenance task possible, yet nothing seems to be fixing the problem.

Thanks in advance,
Mark Anthony

That looks more like a software issue to me and nothing at all to do with your printer.

What App are you using to output your images, and have you tried another App to see if that also replicates the same problem ?

Hi The Hat,

Thank you for the response.

I was using PS CS6... I also exported to PDF and tried to print with Adobe Reader... yet still the same :(

I'm just installing the new PS CC, I'll also re-install the MG5550 drivers/software to see if that makes a difference.

I'll keep you posted :)

Hi,

unfortunately it may be due to some quirks with paper line feed.

In order to verify that, some prints have to be made.

Important!
Some special setting in printer driver are necessary in order to force PGBK only print:
  1. Set settings to "Standard".
  2. Set on "Grayscale printing" and confirm other options are off.
  3. Confirm "Media Type" is "Plain Paper" and "Print Quality" is "Standard".
  4. Save these custom settings with intuitive name by using "Save..." button.

Now, select your favorite software, in printing dialog recall (or define) settings posted above, and print file "test_pattern_b.png" attached below.

Examine printout to see if it is distorted and displays some uneven:

(Please note black horizontal lines on the left and white horizontal lines on the right).

That looks like a mechanical problem, the head movement is not exactly perpendicular to the paper movement anymore, that can be from higher friction on the transport rod, or some other slack
