I have resigned myself to replacing this thing but I am soured on Canon. Since no parts are available, it hardly matters.

In principle I have to agree, parts should be available! Here is a list for my old epson r285

But as I said, this power supply for your canon is probably not damaged - and if you need it anyway you should find it on ebay, because many users take it out before throwing the printer away...
