I don't know if it is the correct word for it but today I noticed when I print texts, black text look like there is an alignment problem. I did a few alignments which did not improve anything.
I thought my P50 is faulty and I nearly packed it for replacement until I remembered I still had the OEM inks so I tried that and black text was fine. So I conclude it must be the IS inks I'm using...

Is this normal?

Here are scanned prints:

Looks like you're using a dye black. I sadly was disappointed too when I bought a 5 ink MIS inkset from inksupply.com made for canon's mp620 only to discover that the inkset came with two dye blacks with one of them specifically stating it was for the pgi-220bk but was still a dye black.

Hi qwertydude
saying that, I tried my mp560 also using IS inks and they look really good just like OEM inks. I know this could be because of the black pigment ink.

So can I assume that bleeding is a "characteristic" of black IS dye inks? Or do I have a bad batch of inks?

The Epson P50 is a 6-color dye ink photo printer and does not use pigment ink. The Canon MP560 uses a pigment black ink and 4-color dye inks. You should not use the same ink in both the Canon and Epson printers as they use different nozzle ejection techniques.

If you are refilling both printers, you should have three different black IS inks and you need to keep them all straight.

So the question is: do you have two different sets of IS inks, one for your Canon and another for your Epson? Are you sure you haven't refilled your Epson black cartridge with either of the Canon black IS inks?

Thank you for pointing that out, I should have mentioned that earlier.

Of course I have two different sets of IS inks, one for each, and you're right, the canon has two blacks, one dye and one pigment. I'm 100% sure that I never interchanged the inks. I put them in separate containers and I have already refilled the canon a few days before having the epson compatibles delivered.

Also forgot to mention, I am using CISS system with IS inks on my P50.

Your Epson is a photo printer intended to print mainly on photo papers. It will not do as well as pigment ink on plain paper but clearly the Epson original ink is superior to the IS ink when printing on plain paper.

Many HP older printers were designed to print black text with dye black ink. The black dye ink was not for printing photos. Those printers printed black text with little bleeding. The photo ink for Epson P50 is probably not formulated for black test printing.

He said the black dye ink made by Epson for the P50 prints fine on plain paper, it's the Image Specialists dye black ink made for this printer that he refilled with that is having the problem.
