there's been a lot of rumors about canon now making opaque versions of the CLI-221/521 and PGI-220/520 carts.

would really like to see some pics of them, to see if this is fact or fiction

my conversation with ebay reseller below, pics he had in description showed a sealed canon box with no image of carts on front:

certainly doesn't confirm anything and I just can't help but contribute to a good solid conspiracy theory. :hide

Maybe Ron from Reliable Copier service is in on it....

I purchased a gray 221 from officemax last week and it was clear-- so were all the other individual 221's they had out.

Dear pharper599,

Canon states that they are no longer clear

Dear reliablecopy,

Hi is there any way to tell if these cartridges have the clear tank where you can actually see the ink level inside? Rumor has it recent production runs have eliminated to ability to manually inspect ink levels and the tank is no longer clear...

Could you confirm whether this set has clear reservoirs?

thanks

Paul

Guys... bad news...

Customer of mine received a refurbished iP4700 with 4 normal CLI-521's with the window and a completely opaque PGI-520BK...

hmmm....

got any pics of the opaque cart ??

just that when i first took out my CLI-221BK, it looked opaque due to the black ink in the reservoir. i then used a syringe and drew some ink out of the cart and the clear window appeared

I just received some Canon 220 and 221 carts that I ordered from B & H Photo. All carts still have the window. Also I just received a refurbished MX870 from Canon and the carts also had the windows.

@jimbo123: Given that there's a black dye ink cart and a black pigment ink cart I think it's safe to say that the customer would have recognised the difference ;)

I don't want to believe it either but the evidence is getting a little too damning...

Who knows, it may be a European only thing...

The pigment black ink clings to the plastic making it very difficult sometimes to see the level of the ink if you have turned it over. I can see how someone would think that there is no window in the pigment black ink cartridge and not conclude the same thing for the dye black ink cartridge where the level would be easy to see because the dye black ink quickly sheds off the plastic.

when i first looked at both new PGI-220BK and CLI-221BK ink carts they appeared to be opaque, then window appeared as i withdrew some ink.

again, would really like to see some pics of any 220/221 opaque carts, to see if this is fact or fiction.
