I thought that pigment inks are better than dye for photo printing. Is that the case? Do any of the Canon printers use pigment inks?
I have narrowed down my search for a new printer to the Canon MG7750 and I am just looking at the ongoing running costs of ink.
What's the difference between the XL and the ordinary carts for this printer? Are the XL carts meant for high volume work, rather than just ordinary everyday home...
Thanks for this suggestion. I have a bit of a bias against Epson printers as I had a lot of trouble with one about 15 years ago, but of course technology may have moved on since then.

As I posted yesterday in the Canon forum my trusty old Canon MP610 (7-8 years old) gave up the ghost yesterday and my son's is also on its last legs. Folk there were enormously helpful in advising how to eek it out to print some vital travel docs my son needs for a 3 week trip round Europe.
Now...
Meant to say that I will now have to replace my reliable old MP610. Any suggestions as to what to replace it with? I want a multifunction printer that can also print high quality photographs.

PeterBJ: many thanks for your advice and suggestion to use the matte paper setting. I'll definitely give that a go and let you know what happens. I suppose I have been lucky to have had a printer that lasted so long.
Sod's law and both Pixma MP610s in the house (mine and my son's) have decided to pack up just as I need to print off a load of travel documents.
My printer won't print at all and my son's only prints part of the text. We have both had these printers for 6-7 years. We only use Canon ink...
