Just got my pc refill inks for cli271 and new carts. Is there a problem with yellow mixing in the print head or not? I've been watching too many videos and forums lately.

All of them! LOL
Only for the PRO-100!
All the videos and posts about this including info readily available at www.precisioncolors.com clearly states it only affects the OEM
CLI-42 Yellow mixing with PC CLI-42 Yellow ink.
No other ink set is affected.

I remembered having read something about Canon also using the "Yellow Jello" trick with other ink cartridges than CLI-42 Y so I searched the forum and found this thread by @mikling .

I do not exclude it can happen with other cartridges after 5-6 refills as @mikling reported.

I had feed problems with refilled yellow 525/526's a few months ago (earlier too I must admit).
Thought it was the age of the (Prodinks) ink and ordered a bottle of OCP.
Flushed the carts before refilling (I always mark the brand and type of ink on the cartridge too).

But my kids continued to print with their old stock - I have 50-60 cartridges circulating between 5-8 printers - without problems (except a B200 but that can occur any moment with a Canon printer, it is a Russian roulette).
They print exclusivily with the dye printers, more than I do.

I found the same problem with other colours (and the OCP yellow) so it could be caused by infrequent use.
Stocked my dye printers for now, will try to find out later (they cause me much more trouble than my pigment ones).

Kids' printers still are OK, will see what happens.

Yet, forum member and Octoink web site owner @websnail reports NO Yello Gello reaction using his 3rd party CLI-42 refill ink in an unflushed Yellow Canon CLI-42 cartridge. http://www.octoink.co.uk/kb/questions/186/CLI-42Y+(Yellow)+Cartridge+-+Special+Considerations

If the issue, or a partial explanation for the issue, is dilution of OEM Canon Yellow CLI-42 ink with water from the refill ink eventually causing the reaction over a span of several refills why then does this not occur with Websnail's refill ink?

Well, I'm man enough to admit I was wrong!
Guess is because I only use Photo printers and not other canon models, that the question would not have come up in my mind since I will probably never even use a printer using cli271 carts.

Maybe the explanation could be that the Pro-100 refill ink sold by Octoink UK is not made by Image Specialists but by Prodinks for Octoinkjet? Maybe this ink doesn't react with remnants of the OEM ink?

There is another ink that is claimed to not have this reaction but when tested it does. Again the labs use standard compatibility tests and it does not display this behavior during those tests. I have another one on the table that is supposed to be OK by another lab. Careful testing indicates the lab is wrong.

It took me a whole week of testing to actually find the reaction and this discovery occurred by chance. Otherwise I might have never figured it out.

Once bitten twice shy. Even if there is an ink that says it is OK, I am always not so sure. Again my testing has borne this out a second time with an ink claimed to be OK. I could have been bitten TWICE if I had believed the lab.

I like safety belts.

Just an Update. The Prodinks don’t react with Canon OEM yellow leading to the notorious “Yello Gello” syndrome when refilling a yellow OEM cartridge, it can be mixed straight in with no ill effects..

I have pc inks and refi)able carts. I am just concerned about residual ink in the head. I am not planning on refilling oem carts.
