Will updating firmware in Maxify MB2350 cause problems with compatible cartridges?

Hi Folks,
I have an MB504 error which am still awaiting an answer to (see Slightly different Canon Maxify B504 error problem) anyway one of the solutions I saw was to update the firmware but at the moment I can use compatible cartridges no problem but if I update will Cannon be able to stop me doing this?

See your previous post, there’s no need to update the printer, leave well enough alone..
