Which is better to use? Network printing or local printing?

Properly installed, there is no difference in printing locally or across a network. If you want more than one computer to have access to a printer, you (obviously) must use a network. A network also allows you to install a printer in a different location than where you have your working computer - especially useful if you have a laptop with a wireless network connection.
