I was looking into getting a large format printer from Canon, either an 8 or a 12-color Lucia ink model, and was wondering which would be a good 3rd party ink provider for that.
The options are clearly not as many as with Epsons.

Image Specialists produce ink for those models, but from my previous experience with their Epson inks, I believe the glossiness of those inks on glossy and luster media is unacceptable.
Does the same happen with their Canon inks, or is it a different enough formulation to result in satisfactory glossiness on glossy media?
Is anybody using IS pigment inks and can share their experience, or can suggest another manufacturer for the above mentioned inksets?

I’ve used I.S pigment ink in a large format Canon and am now using the same inks in three of my other A3 Canon printers.

The glossiness of the ink was not a particular concern to me nor was the bronzing effect on the black, I just wasn’t that fussy to let it bother me, but I did do a test with Gloss Optimiser which eliminated most of bronzing and improved the glossiness up to 85%.

I have also used Chinese pigment inks and they should be considered as a source for good quality ink, once their P&P costs come down a bit..

The delay in introducing the Pro-10 inkset is to begin a new phase of Canon Pigments. I elected to move to a newer and improved family. The Pro-10 inkset and others to follow in the newer EVO pigment line will address those concerns. It will eventually be carried back to the Pro9500 as well. Similar situation with the Epson pigment inks which will carry the EVO features of even better color match to OEM, larger gamut, superior adherence to gloss media.
All will unfold and part of the reason I am not very active on this board at the moment. All this and including ready to use LFP carts for the Canon and Epson line.

How well do the inks you currently sell for the 12 and 7 color models (for the ipf-5100 and W8400 printers for instance) perform in terms of glossiness and gloss differential? How would you rate them against the Epson K3 IS equivalents?

This is good news.

As an amateur user with low volume I can't complain about the general quality and compatibility of the actual I.S. pigment inks (on the 9500), but I was disappointed by the gloss differences/bronzing who limit IMO their use for photos to matte paper. I tried on available satin (Olmec Photo Satin OLM61) and pearl (Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl - out of production) papers who mask the effect partially.

Indeed, Canon's fear for clogged heads on their PRO pigment printers is exaggerated (from a user's point of view :)).
They use more ink standing still than printing.

I own 2 MX7600 all-in-ones who use the same cartridges, they never clog and do ages with their ink.

But they are used nearly every day.
I tried to transfer some office print jobs to the 9500 to keep it busy, but even then the ink usage per page seems to be a multiple.
Same for 10*15 cm giveaway photos.
