I need a method to store the oem canon cartridges, I now want to switch to the hobbicolors ink, but have some oem cartridges. I do not want them to dry out, what method should I use to store the cartridges?

Hi bkim84,

Use the OEM first before you switch to hobbicolor.

and then refill the OEM's as well as any other carts you have for this printer. OEM carts work great for refilling.

I wanted to keep the OEM just in case. The hobbicolors seem to be easier to refill and I already have the kit. Do you guys still recommend me completely using the OEM?

When I got my newest printer (Canon ip6000D) I ran a few prints using the OEM cartridges until the refill kit came from Hobbicolors. I just used the orange caps that snap off the cartridges to reseal the partially used Canon cartridges. I used rubber bands to securely hold on the caps. Also, I retaped the air channel over the sponge chamber with a piece of Scotch type tape. This should seal the cartridge enough to keep it from drying out.
My reason was apparently the same as yours - to have some Canon OEM ink available if ever needed. Hopefully this will seal the cartridges until I ever need or want to use them.

Either way works. When I set up my wife's ip5000 I set the OEM carts aside still sealed and used some carts I had refilled with Computer Friends inks. I had a 2 oz set of CF unused from a purchase almost two years ago. I'll use MIS ink in hers when the CF runs out. CF and MIS are reputed to be the same - both possibly from Imaging Specialists.
