Scanner: error code 6, printer doesn't even start up.

I have an HP Laserjet Pro mfp m521 and whenever I start it up, it checks the scanner and tells me there's an error. Code given is 6, but no matter how hard I try I never found this error code, as far as I know it doesn't exist. Most other people's solutions to fix the scanner relies on the thing turning on, but it just won't even do that, so I haven't tried anything yet. Has anyone seen this error code 6?
