Has anyone had success refilling the opaque Canon OEM CLI-271/270 cartridges? With resetters now available I was wondering if I should go that route or get the Precision Colors refillables. This would be for a TS9020 printer.

refilling the opaque Canon OEM CLI-271/270 cartridges?
Refill by weight using a decent gram scale. Knowing the weight of a new unused cartridge is key. Then calculate the weight of the used cartridge, subtract it from the weight of a new cartridge to know how many grams of ink used, then figure on 1 ml of ink equals 1 gram of ink to fill a syringe for refilling the used cartridge. Reset the chip before refilling.

Weights of new cartridges listed in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyCZHo8sNa0

Consider a set of the larger XL for refilling. Also, use the Top Fill method with silicone plugs for the refill hole.

Or, just buy Precision Colors aftermarket cartridges that are set up for refilling and have Auto Reset Chips (ARC chips). Not as desirable as Canon OEM but hopefully dependable.

Thank you for the cartridge weights. I assume the weights are without wrapping, vent seal tape and orange clip. The PGI-x70/CLI-x71 and PGI-x50/CLI-x51 cartridges are identical apart from the chips, and the weights are also independent of the regions, so the table of weights of the full cartridges becomes:

  • PGI-x70 XL and PGI-x50 XL 41g
  • CLI-x71 XL and CLI-x51 XL 24g
  • PGI-x70 and PGI-x51 37g
  • CLI-x71 and CLI-x51 22g
Does anybody know the weights of the new PGI-x80/CLI-x81 cartridges that come in three sizes standard, XL, and XXL?

Edit: The two cartridge generations are not exactly the same capacities, so weights may be wrong for the x50/x51 cartridges.

I thought the x50/x61 and x70/X71 cartridges were identical, but there are slight differences, see this and this from Canon.

CLI-251 BK / C / M / Y 7.0ml
PGI-250 PGBK 15.0ml

CLI-251XL BK / C / M / Y 11.0ml
PGI-250XL PGBK 22.0ml

I wonder how much difference there is in weights for the two cartridge generations?
