a recently acquired canon MP830 is giving me the following error:

Paper output slot.
The paper is jammed clear the paper and press OK

was doing a nozzle check without connected to any computer. paper was fed by bottom tray, got stuck and i pulled it out.

have looked for any scraps, tried feeding cardboard through the back, but to no avail

have tried compressed air, looking in all the usual places, can't find any paper, etc

just can't clear the error. it comes on during self test, even with no print head in, etc

have heard about the out the output tray sensor, not sure where that it or if it can be replaced. i do have a few MP830s w spare parts

any ideas ?

thx

Possible solutions:

Make sure to unlock the scanning unit before turning the machine on.
  1. Lift the document cover open.

  2. Slide the scanner lock switch to the release mark.

  3. Close the document cover.

  4. Press <ON/OFF> to turn off the machine.

  5. Wait approximately 5 seconds then press <ON/OFF> to power back on the printer.

Are you getting any other indication of malfunction such as blinking lights or an error code? For example:

Cycles of blinking in orange (Alarm LED) and green (COPY button)
14 times

Error
Paper feed cam sensor error

Error code
[6B10]

Conditions
An error occurred in the paper feed cam sensor during paper feeding from the front paper feed cassette. This error is also indicated when the waste ink counter is 60% or more, and a paper jam occurs in the under guide.

Solution (Replacement of listed parts, which are likely to be faulty)

- Sheet feed unit
- Logic board

Not sure what the "under guide" is. Could it be the waste ink counter is 60% or more which contributes to the issue? Would a reset of the waste ink counter resolve the issue?

stratman,

great info and tips. no blinking lights or error codes, can't print out the service mode report yet to see what the waste pad count is.

might try a waste pad reset anyway to see if that helps.

i picked this up for $15 mainly for the scanner/ADF unit. i have 2 MP830s that print fine but the scanner units died, so working on yet another backup.

these printers are over 10 years old, refill easily and just need some tender care every now and then.

build quality is worth the effort to keep these going.

Agree. They are terrific.

I also have one with a bum scanner unit that needs replacement.

quick update

i was able to pull an service mode eeprom report, unit is at 84% waste pad usage.

i tried to resolve the error, compressed air, shook it upside down, reset waste pad counter to 0%, all to no avail.

given the 84%, i have decided to pull the working scanner/ADF and put it on my old MP380 that has 63,000 printed pages on it whose scanner/ADF died.

thx for all the help, hard to believe these printers are 10 years old and sill kicking/refilling.

Thanks for the update. Like organ transplantation, the scanner unit will live on in its recipient. Sacrifice for another is the theme of this day.

Paper output slot.
The paper is jammed clear the paper and press OK
It’s possible that when you were removing the jammed paper, you have pulled or knock the mechanical paper sensor backwards, (Bent) and its still in the paper feed position, removing a paper jam is not always straight forwards.

Look for the little plastic arm sticking up on the paper path...
