Hi guys,

The printer is 3 months old, I purchased my inks from precisioncolors, and did follow the instructions to the letter.
I am not a newbie, so nothing really difficult to be done comparing to the past Canon printers I owned.

First, I did the black cart, after 15 days the three colors.
No issues with the black, apart some sheets that have some smear of ink when the sheets show up on the printer tray.
I am not sure why is that,

The colors instead, once changed, I printed a the nozzle check, and it was perfect.
The day after, I printed a document and the colors were not good, and I got horizontal stripes. (please see my attachment)
After having seen the above, I printed another nozzle check and it shows issues with M & Y as well as C, but a bit less evident in the pattern.
Black, although in the scan it does not appear perfect, it is good.

I have attached a scan of the above documents and did nothing else, with the hope you can provide me with some good advice.

Thank you!
Alex

Make sure the vent seals are removed. Then perform a head cleaning and test again

Hi Mike,

Definitely the seals are off, but I felt a good idea to eject and re-insert the carts.
I took a few pictures and I do not think the air bubbles should be there above the ink surface.

Anyways, after re-inserting the carts, I ran a cleaning cycle and did a nozzle check, all good.
I printed the same document and it looks good too.

So at this point, it is possible that the cleaning did the trick removing the air, but I can only be sure if printing during the week will be consistently good.

I keep my fingers crossed :)

Thank you!
Alex

Finger crossed did not work :(

Half an hour later... the same page shows this way and the C&M seem to have trouble.
I did not do anything in-between, so I cannot understand why after half an hour, things change.

After a another head clean, perform a number of pages of printing to stabilize the negative pressure in the ink cartridges, Also the recurring problem in another color could be air related if the initially priming with the syringe and tip did not come off perfectly. Print like 6 pages of the attached.

The OEM tanks have an internal spring that immediately puts negative pressure on the OEM tanks, The aftermarket tanks have to create the negative pressure when ink comes out and air does not re enter immediately.

Mike,

I did what suggested, but no go.
After I took the steps above, I printed the nozzle check and it was perfect.
I waited one hour and you can see the results yourself. Print and nozzle check after one hour are attached in one document.

I do not know what to think at this point.

I do not know what to think at this point.
Ditch the compatible carts and go back and refill your OEM cart instead, they’ll work much better and give good ink flow, these compatible carts may work in time but for now they look to me to be over filled.. !

As the last option, I can do that, but certainly I did not expect this outcome from the aftermarket ones I purchased.
  • Can you let me know or point me to the way I can refill the original carts?
I found this video which was posted on the alternative ways to refill the Maxify thread, I guess the procedure would be identical for the PGI-1200.
My questions:
  • How many ml can I refill in the genuine PGI-1200XL Black tank? 55ml ?
  • How many ml can I refill in the genuine PGI-1200XL Colors? 25ml ?
  • Since I removed the Black tank 2 weeks ago and the colors ones 1 week ago, isn't there the risk they are dry (the black was empty) or mixing the new ink to the genuine one, as the colors still have some ink in it?
  • Do I need to do anything with regards to the chips?
  • As in the video, I think using a big syringe would decrease the number of times you have to remove it while refilling, or it does not make any difference given that we are working on a 'sealed' environment?
Thank you!
Alex
