I want to add a daily use printer (refillable) to my Pro 100 which I'll use for photos.

The Maxify or MegaTank look like good candidates. I'm a long-time, competent refiller with CLI8 and CLI42 cartridges, but have never touched the other two I mentioned. I'm looking for a dependable, very easy to refill printer for day to day use (mainly printing invoices, quick LOW quality photos, etc). I'd value highly the one that is least tempermental.

Can anyone give me advice as to which of these two printers (or neither!) I should look at?

Thanks,
Fred

The interesting thing is that you can get the Pro-100 for less than either of those printers especially on a deal. The Maxify has higher running costs and the Megatank....is like no man's land for a refilling person. It is aimed at those positively scared of refilling.

The Maxify or MegaTank
Megatank/Ecotank type printer models
Three different printer models listed above:

1) Canon Maxify
2) Canon G-Series Megatank
3) Epson Ecotank

As ISF has pointed out, the Canon G-Series Megatank and the Epson Ecotank models are similar in refilling method. It is fairly no fuss, no muss. Buy a bottle of Canon / Epson ink and stick it in its port. Like putting in a new 5 gallon water bottle into a water dispenser you might have at work. No cartridges and no manually refilling of ink.

The Canon Maxify uses large cartridges. You can buy Chinese refillables with ARC chips that some have found work quite well. They printers more fidgety to refill but the ink lasts a long time.

As to the quality of printed output... others will need to comment. It does seem that the Maxify is usually the recommendation instead of the other two. Different strokes for different folks.

As you know, the Canon Pro 100 is an entirely Dye-based ink printer. There is no Pigment ink for text, so black may look less deep, the characters less sharp, and/or there will be no water resistance.

Maybe I should just use the Pro 100 for everything. I almost feel guilty using such a high quality photo printer for everyday stuff. But I bought three of them, so I'm set for a long time of refilling. And I have a good stash of empty CLI8 cartridges.

I don't really need pigment black ink for printing invoices, copies of letters, etc.......so another reason to use only a Pro 100 (and I'll gain space). And there is no learning curve for refilling the Pro 100.

thanks.
