Thanks to all of you, I couldn't do it without you, special gratitude to @websnail at OctoInk. …you are my official "dealer"

Feels so good to not be a "newbie" any more.

Now ask away, any questions? Notice how I started out "wetting the whistle" on the Yellow dry CLI-8? That's right y'all, there's a new 'Freedom Method' in town. It just takes a while :p

@Photographic Memory, I reckon you’re not quite an “official getting fingers dirty” Just yet, you've still got your Feckin gloves on...o_O

This new Freedom refill method doesn’t work good at all, it's a waste of time and unsatisfactory, stick to the tried and tested top filling method... ;)

Impressive as your refilled yellow cart may look, in fact its to full, you’re over filling the carts, the cyan carts is filled as far as you should go safely...

Now you’re not a Newbie anymore you can start giving good advice to all our new arrivals... :D

Party pooper! On a serious note, what could happen if I overfill? I was reading the thread last night about the 2 tier sponge design, saying that Canon may purposes underfill cartridges as the top sponge can by all means hold extra quantities?

(Contrary to the selling us out theory I believe they underfill for safety reasons during transport?)

P.S. I'll have you know I filled the Yellow on my lap without gloves on at all.
And yup, that's when our problems can begin, huh? When we get too complacent.

Right now, where are our newbies at? I need to give some advice!

Overfilling a cart is worse than underfilling, by overfilling you can render the cart in operative by blocking the Air maze on the top with dried ink which can very easy lodge in there, no air flow, no ink to your print head.

You gain nothing by overfilling, you still have to refill when the cart shows low anyway, it’s a risk you shouldn’t take because your making huge saving on 3rd party inks, so why risk your print head with an expensive mistake...

Overfilling can also cause the cartridge to leak. In a worst case leaking can ruin the print head. I have lost a print head in an iP4200 because of a bad leaking 3rd party cartridge. The leaked ink crept under the nozzle plate and created a short circuit that took out some of the yellow nozzles.

If you oversaturate a sponge by priming it before refill you also risk leaking. You can check the refilled cartridge by placing it in a shallow tray with the ink outlet facing down for around 10 minutes. The cartridge must not leak.
