So...... are you saying you do not see a resetter of any sort in the near or even distant future for any of the new CANON PRO series?

It's not like the PRO-100s are few out there or there is not enough demand to warrant such a development.
Are they sevretly working on it but it is impossible to crack?

Hell they've already come up with Compatible PRO-1 carts with single use chips which I believe The Hat has already purchased, used.

Merchants on Alibaba are teeming with these PRO-1 compatible carts even though there aren't really that many PRO-1 in out hands as compared to the PRo-100 volumes.

Come on Websnail, you were able to get a PRO-9500MKII / PG-9 resetter developed!

The 9500 code was the same code as the cli-8. It was just likely the adding of a few lines of code to add the extra two colors nothing more actually. As Hat has confirmed that chips on the CLI-8 will work on the Pro-9500. So that tells you something. In addition I also inferred that the PGI-9 was developed in a rush because it was delayed quite a while after announcement. It looks like Canon had anticipated using the same carts or something like that with the same capacities as the CLI-8 but in pigment, so they just reused the chip. So any existing code for the CLI-8 just needed some extra acceptance codes or bits.

If I were Canon, if I saw what happened to the Pro-1, I'd for sure raise my game on the communication keys exchange aspect and use fusible links. I'd even revise my firmware like what Epson use to do. Have stored keys that are not used until firmware is updated and then existing compatibles that snooped on old keys are rendered useless.

Right, I realize that.

Would a cart with fusible links like some of the newer Epson carts as far back as the T087s ( R1900 ) had that wet ink sensor behind the chip housing.
What if the cart is never allowed to reach that magic FATAL treshold?
Could resetter then be able to reset it? Firmware might also be the killer here as well.

The fusible or restricted access burns bridges as you cross them. Ain't no going back. like a ratchet. On the latest Epson, even with an optical sensor, the logic is that the chip expects empty at some point. If the optics still senses ink, it will give about a 20% leeway at which point it KNOWS that it must have reached empty at that point under normal use and BAM. You're done. End of chip.
I'm only speculating but if I were Canon, I'd nail down that chip tight and only conform to government rules and block off the G&G of the world. Refillers are a mosquito bite relative to the other compatibles market. So in the end, we'll still refill and what you'd get at Staples is a re manufactured Canon cartridge with limited capabilities like what we would end up with. if you want the ink monitor etc. bring out the fat wallet.

Why would I ever cross them? Unless crossing and therby shorting out would inevitably occur when a resetter was applied?

I use an iX7000 printer which uses these PGI-9 carts exactly the same ones as in the 9500 (Except Large BK cart).

However while all of these cartridges use the CLI-8 chips as the 9500 does, Mikling pointed out correctly
that the large PGI-9 BK black cart actually uses the PGI-5 chip, which is slightly strange.

Canon already use this fusible chip on the 251/250, it takes about 3 refills to activate
I reckon to give the user a complete sense of security, and then bang wallop gone.

The new CLI-42 chip is just a variant of the CLI-8 chip I reckon but commutates far more with the Eprom chip
so we wont really know how a reset chip will behave until we try it out,
you may be forced to use several other carts before the first one can be used again, who knows. (Conjecture on my part).

The biggest problem I face with all my Canon printer is that they are all connected to one operating system,
so when I go to install a new printer it wants to connect to their website, (So what).

Once there it then checks on all of my current printers and drivers and will make scuttle changes to whichever one it deems fit,
and I only find out later when I go to print something and it wont print properly.

All of these changes are taking affect right under our noses and most are not aware of them,
I have had some hair rising moments on some of my printers all because of firmware updates.. :hide
