Many of laser printers and inkjet printers can deliver their printout counts via service mode, driver interface or their own programmes as I know. What about canon inkjet printers? I made a google search and looked the user manual but couldn't find any information about how to find the printout count. My printer is mx850 and replaced the printhead. So I want to learn the number of printouts I could get before it dies.

@koray, Here is an unedited PDF straight from an old Canon Service Manual...

Thanks for answering. Here are my results. As I Understood I My printer delivered 20585 pages of printouts, 3990 copies, 5277 ADF scan, 1270 plate scan, 361 faxes. And the printer used 9 black (pigment), 27 Black (Dye), 14 yellow, 15 Magenta, 14 cyan cartridges. This shows you can get approx. 20.000 printouts with a single printhead untill it dies. If Missed sth. or wrong please comment. I upload the service mode printout diagnostics as reference for mx 850.

@koray, that can happen....
But not the important one, your waste ink is still at D=080.0...
Be careful because the Service tool can be destructive and dangerous...:(

You most likely accidentally pressed the Stop/Resume button three times instead of twice or once. Pressing the Stop/Resume button three times selects EEPROM initialisation which resets some of the counters and timers. Sadly there is no undo function that will bring the numbers back :( , so I suggest to keep the first printout.

your page count numbers are just for orientation when judging the printhead performance until it fails, it is not the number of pages wearing out the printhead but the amount of ink passing through the nozzles, your numbers may be completely different depending on the ink coverage of your prints and the usage of the various nozzle rows depending on the quality settings in the driver - just imagine you are mainly printing full page photos . But as long as you continue with the mix of the printout types you are using the page count gives you valid information.

I can also confirm that it’s nozzles fired that determines the life of your print head, you can print 50.000 sheets of white text and it won’t affect the life of the print head, but on the other hand your page count will be huge...

The difficulty is that Canon does not tell you the ink amount used or the number of ink shots per nozzle row, but you won't get that information from other consumer/desktop printers either, that's info left to users of professional/large format printers
