Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I am surfing everywhere on the net to try to get an answer for this:

If I manage to reset the EEPROM of a Canon MP980, Will I reset ALL the info in there or some info will remain ?

Thanks !!

Thanks for your reply

I want to change the cartridge tank count which is like this ATM

CT(PBK=999 BK=001 Y=999 M=999 C=999 GY=999)

reason is when I baught this printer I already had 5 carts with ARChips and used them. I only printed around 60 sheets and powered on the printer 4 times (so the ARChips must reset to full every hour or so) infact Ink monitor always showd the 5 carts as full

ok fair enough updating the firmware may do the trick but i doubt it. normally with canons you need to follow a procedure to enter the service menu. not sure for this model but its summet simple like hold a button power off then do a button sequence. but as i said not sure..ill have a look into it

I have seen that thread (and replied on it) but it's not clear to me if

1) it can reset the eeprom of the MP980
2) what will be cleared/ not cleared if I reset the eeprom

Thanks

try this

its for a close model but from experience canon resets are family orientated

1. Unplug the printer for at least 2 minutes from the wall.

2. Plug the printer back in but leave the printer turned off.

3. Enter Service Mode

a. Hold Stop/Reset button and the Power button for 5 seconds

b. Release Stop/Reset button but continue to hold Power button

c. Press Stop/Reset twice

d. Release the Power Button

e. Wait for the light to stop flashing. The printer is now in service mode. The display may be blank or simply read Canon during this time.

4. Do an EPROM reset.

a. Press the Stop/Reset button 3 times.

b. Press the Power button twice. The printer will save the changes and then it will reboot. A little cd/dvd icon will appear in the LCD screen.

3. The printer will probably now require the same setting up as when you first unpacked it. That is, you will need to select a language and let the printer do a head alignment.

The printer is now enabled.

Dont forget to reinstall the printer driver.

if you reset the epprom all values will be returned to factory apart from a couple like purge and cant remember the other.

if you have the wrong sequence it just wont work. it wont damage the printer
