Just a quick introduction...So I used to live in the Portland area and had my choice of refillers for my HP 88 carts, but now I live in rural Idaho and refilling carts my self is far and away the best option. My Officejet Pro L7590 was getting really problematic so I chucked it got a new HP 8625 from Costco. I was a little intrepid about using pigment inks but since I mostly print bulletins and outlines for classes I figured it was worth a shot. I'm still using the carts that came with the printer but I have already bought replacement carts from inkproducts.com (I liked the idea of the COC chips) and ink from r-jettek.com. Hopefully all goes well. BTW If you think I made a bone-head decision, let me know. I would rather know now than later

Welcome to refilling! Do you live with a septic system?

For your intended uses, a dye ink printer would have been a viable option.

Yes, our house has a septic tank and drain field. Why do you ask?

The residual ink you might dispose of down the drain may not be good for the "health" of your system. I use a separate "drying pan" to evaporate waste ink (soaked into newspaper) and discard the paper into recycling.

Good point. Actually I was wondering if it is a bad idea to mix the hp ink with the third party ink I'm refilling with. I figure that the "empty" carts will have some ink left in them, would it be bad to reuse it when I refill?
