Hi all,
My 1-2 year old Canon PIXMA MX922 misses regions when printing black (see picture below). I've done all of the following and I still have the problem:
- All the printer maintenance things through their software
- Changed both black cartridges
- Cleaned both sides of the encoder/timing strip with alcohol
- Cleaned the printer heads with filtered water until clear
- Printed different files to see if it was a file issue

I use this ink. I don't refill them, I change them out for new ones when they run out.

Please let me know if you have ideas, thanks!

Could you please upload a nozzle check printout? It is better for diagnosing the printer.

Sad to say it but the print head is damaged. No amount of cleaning can clear this error. Only a new print head will cure the printer. What causes the damager to the pigment black and the beginning damage to the dye/photo black is not known AFAIK but a theory on the druckerchannel.de Canon forum is that the damage is deformed nozzles caused by an unsuitable ink with wrong cooling properties.

Sadly it seems that the print heads in printers newer than the PGI-x25/CLI-x26 cartridge generation are more fragile/picky about the used refill ink.

I'd try an OEM on the PGBK or a known good brand with pigment. The ink is not jetting forcefully at the center where the entry of ink typically enters the print nozzle bank trough. A weak not violent enough bubble will delay exit and have a trail. This can occur with the properties of the ink itself or cart feed/flow characteristics.
