The IP5200 is the best photo printer on the market right now in it's price range. With 1 picoliter and 3600 nozzles it's a pretty awesome printer that can be had in the $150 price range.

As for refilling weink.com sells: http://www.weink.com/ecom/catalog/ultraflo_for_canon_rc100_light_fast_inkjet_inks_4404718.htm

I can't vouch for the ink or the store, I believe they are selling the new Image Specialist ink which should be good.

A couple of users have used older formulabs ink that is intended for the bci-6 tanks in their 4200/5200 and the results were good.

The MP500 and MP800 look very slick and cool but I have not done any real testing with them to know what kind of photo quality they put out. I would presume they would be good since they use the same printheads as the 4200 and 5200.

Hello LTR,

I don't have experience with the 4200 or the 5200 but I can help you with another aspect of buying a printer: I added the 4200 and 5200 to my site, so you can calculate the costs of printing (and, though both printers use the same cartridges, the cost difference in photo printing is quite big so it might be interesting to look at it!)

LTR, I would suggest that you steer clear from these printers if you refill. Although they can be refilled quite easily, they are no longer equipped with the "Think Tank" technology (optical sensors for ink quantity estimation) and they will not report ink quantity if you choose to refill.

From a refiller's point of view, their speed, quality and characteristics are 100% the same with the ip4000 and ip5000 models which can be refilled without problems.

So, you better look for an ip4000, ip5000 or even better ip6000 (the 6 ink photo printer) instead.

Canon Pixma iP4200 is easy to use, instructions are straight forward, and the results are really good. Even on fast print, written documents are of very acceptable quality. Photos so far seem to be very good.

I think iP4200 is a better choice than the iP5200 as it prints quite a few more pages per ink tank than the iP5200.
In tank: number of pages iP4200/number of pages iP5200
Black: 1450/1250,
Cyan: 850/710,
Magenta: 600/500,
Yellow: 540/480
