I have Pixma MP560 and use OCTOINK to refill tanks CLI-521/PGI-520 and resetter to reset chips.

Can the same ink be used to refill the tanks in a MG6450 and will a RED setter reset the chips ok?

The MG6450 use the PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridges so you will need a new resetter for these cartridges. Your old inks will work in the new printer, but there will be a colour cast. This can be corrected by adjusting the printer driver.

But it seems the printheads of the PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridge generation are fragile. They often fail in the pigment black nozzles with vertical double contours and in the dye (photo) black nozzles with fuzziness. Some think the failures are caused by refill ink with unsuitable properties. So it might be better to use the proper refill ink set for these cartridges. You can get both the new resetter and a new ink set at Octoink UK.
