I have a Canon MG5350 which was printing fine one day and nothing the next! It takes in the paper, operates as usual and delivers a blank sheet. There is no error code displayed. Has anyone any idea what might be wrong and if it might be worth trying to repair.

Does your printer print text direct from a black text-only document file (NOT a .pdf or image file) on plain paper? This uses the Black Pigment ink rather than the other colors. Your response will lead to possibilities to investigate.

Many thanks for your post. Unfortunately, it isn't printing anything, either black text from a document file or images from pdf or png. I have tried on different settings like glossy paper instead of plain and settings other than "standard". The result is the same - a blank sheet of paper! The printer has given good service over a couple of years and I'm thinking that maybe it's time to invest in a new one!

Hello,

totally blank nozzle print or everything else can be because of broken circuit in printhead.
There are 3 independent contacts on printhead, if any of it is broken then is "blank" print with no error.

It can be verified with multimeter, just give a sign if you want to do so.
I'll be back on Saturday.

That sounds right! Thank you but seems now time to pension the printer off! Ex-demo printers are still available so not going to break the bank!

Hi,

I'm back.
For sure there are plenty of people who want to know full story :)

In most (if not every) printhead with green connector board, there are three contacts, masking any of it makes no print and no error (like "B200" or "U052"). It was examined on QY6-0080 (QY6-0072 and QY6-0073 also count).
  1. VHT (marked red)
  2. Serial data clock for nozzles (but not for printhead EEPROM!) (marked yellow)
  3. Latch enabled signal (marked aqua)
Location on QY6-0080 connector:
gy6-0080-pinout_m2_no_print.png

Typical resistance (QY6-0080, QY6-0073):
  1. VHT
    • isolated to other HV lines (~3 MOhms and more)
    • ~1,7 MOhm to LV ground (red probe on ground)
  2. Serial clock
    • only ~0,02 MOhm to LV ground (symmetrical)
    • ~1,3 MOhm to plus LV (black on plus LV)
  3. Latch enable
    • only ~0,02 MOhm to plus LV (symmetrical)
    • ~1,3 MOhm to LV ground (red on LV ground)
Too high resistance is remark of broken circuit. Broken circuit means no print.

Position of plus LV [aqua], LV ground [green] and VH lines [red] (except for VHT):

Good luck!

@ Łukasz I have a print head that just retired; it didn’t break or get damaged in any way a message just popped up saying replace the print head. (End of life)

Now I reckon if I could disable that message this print head may work again, so which pins would you recommend to cover to try this out.

Hi,

look like it is related to data in printhead EEPROM.
Can't be worked out by just sealing pins, I'm afraid :(

Two things are needed to solve situation:
  1. Location of EEPROM data contacts (4 dedicated contacts).
  2. Another printhead EEPROM data (can be read from service mode prints from MX7600 or iX7000).
"Unused", VHs, LV+ and LV- can be identified visually.
Only 27 pins left to localize, because it is no pinout in service manual for MX7600 or iX7000

14 - Serial Data (easy to find)
4 - Heat Enable
4 - EEPROM
3 - DIA + DIK
2 - Serial Clock, Latch Enable (easy to find)

Strange, connector board seems to be similar to QY6-0067/QY6-0075 and QY6-0061... maybe position of EEPROM contacts is the same? (rhetorical question)

Looks like description is switched (QY6-0049 and QY6-0066) :p
