Hi, Has anyone used a Canon imagePROGRAF TM-200 to print photos?
My requirements are ...
61cm (24 inch) square prints, original Pigment Ink (only), on Matte paper.
(Nothing else).
The limitation of this printer is 4 (usable) inks.
The images to be printed range from street grab shots, to high quality studio images, (No landscapes or anything that require ultimate quality).
Therefore, before the 69-kg pallet is delivered, feedback would be nice.

This thing can be purchased new for around 1200 Euro.
It appears similar to the Canon imagePROGRAF 20 (cheaper, but ink costs more due to smaller cartridges).

If I spend thousand/s more, a printer advertised as a photo printer, with more inks, is a more expensive option.

How bad is the print quality of this unit compared to something with more inks?
Big difference? Slight difference?

Thanks

I would expect that there are just small differences when you know what to look for . But you are not explaining what your expectations are in respect to print 'quality' . And it's not just the printer creating good quality prints but it all starts whether your images are worth being printed that large in the first place - the motive - the image contrast - details etc - do your images tell a story ?

Hi, Thanks for fast reply.
Yes, the images are probably worth printing and some tell a story.
Most are exclusive, unrepeatable and will eventually be offered for sale.
The contrast and technical quality are less important than subject matter.
The few that are studio quality were shot either on 6x7 film or medium format digital.

Here are two prints done to show the difference between a 5 colour dye ink printer and a 4 colour pigment printer..

This is the quality you can expect to get with your 4 colour pigment printer, and as your prints will be viewed from a greater distance rather than in your hand, I reckon you’ll be more than satisfied with the quality of the output..

whether your images are worth being printed that large in the first place
That is the bigger question..

Thank you. On the screen, looks perfectly adequate.

Regarding - ... Whether your images are worth being printed ...That is the bigger question..-

Good question, and I don't know the answer.
Can worth be judged by how much people are willing to pay?
Are there enough people, unaffected by the general lack of money to splash out on a piece of paper called art?
From a technical standpoint, most of them are ... not worth it.
From a uniqueness standpoint, if no others exist, and the person is dead, does that make a photo worth printing?
Personally, I don't like looking at photos for more than 5 seconds, so no prints on my walls.
Others may feel differently.

I own this printer 3 years now.I use it to print matte canvas and sometimes heavy coated matte papper.
It does the job more than satisfying (for me)
My customers are ordinary people with photos from their mobile phones.
If you are in europe you can check also other countries to buy.
In Greece this printer costs 685 euros vat included.

Thanks the the information, Nikos.
In fact, I travel to Greece once or twice a year.
Transporting it by coach, without the base (stand) is a possibility.
The American discount price is around $2000 ..... much fluctuation.
Because of your input, I shall check the prices in every country.

Nikos, I cannot find the price you mentioned.

Athens 2693 Euro

Thank you!
About 500 Euro less than most European prices (some include stand, others do not).
( ... and 2000 Euro less than another Greek store).
