@philqol, maybe you have asked the $64,000 question just in time, because all of these above links for ink are totally rubbish and yes they probably would help to ruin you print head.

thanks guys i think i'll play safe and get some from octoink. i've seen that site before must have been from here, and i'll watch those brilliant vids again by the expert refiller.
i may be able to refill without the need to purge, the original carts that came with my bargain PIXUS (japanese) ip4500, i got from ebay. the seller seemed to think it was malfunctioning because it only worked in japan, but the only thing wrong with it was a paper blockage. i've risked overiding the ink out twice just to print labels, making sure to use only dye ink by setting it to glossy photo paper. the yellow is showing as low, the black pigment is showing as out.
