Aluminium tape for sealing the vent hole

Hi all,

I usually seal (as a precautionary measure) the vent hole of my canon cartridges (PGI 520 and 521) when not in use. However, the aluminium tape in my possession (bought long time ago from octoink in strips of 1mt) it has always been very difficult to remove and, every time, the glue of the tape tends to remain attached to the cartridge (sometimes, it remains directly attached to the cartridge part of the aluminium tape).

I'm tired of wasting time to remove the glue and I would like to solve this problem. Have you any specific brand/model of aluminium tape to recommend, that, it is not subject to the same above issue?

I know that I could replace the aluminium tape with something like bluetack but it does not provide the same grade of sealing and I would like to leave this option as last beach.

Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I hate to tell you this, but it’s not necessary to seal the air maze vent on the top of your cartridges, no harm will come to either your inks or the cartridges if left unsealed for months and months.
Problem solved...:thumbsup

I also use aluminium tape as an extra seal over a refill plug on Canon cartridges. To remove glue residues I use n-heptane AKA C7H16 AKA benzine not to be confused with benzene which is carcinogenic. Lighter fluid is most likely n-heptane.

PeterJB you are essentially confirming that also your aluminium tape tends to leave on the cartridge part of the glue

I have used two different aluminium tapes. One from Octoink and one from 3M bought at Lidl supermarket. Both leave a sticky and "greasy" residue if left on the cartridge for some time. To get a good seal from a new tape after refill I clean the cartridge with a suitable solvent before applying the new tape.

Are you sure that if the cartridge is stored with the Octoink's storage clip and the refilling hole is closed with the Octoink's silicon plugs plus some bluetack as top cover, there is no risk that the ink will exit from the vent hole left uncovered?

Are you sure
Certain of that, because I have some 40 cartridges here that only get used occasionally, and they can be left standing in a tray unused for more that six months, with no covering on the air maze hole.

I did cover the air maze hole on a few carts once but they all started to leak, and I won’t speculate as to the reason why, without getting into controversy with @stratman, again...:p

No Problem storing with air maze open. When I used the German method I did as a belt and braces seal the hole used for refilling in the bottom of the cart with Aluminium (that's woth 2 i's) tape. I just cleaned the area each time with IPA to get a better adhesion for the new tape after refilling.
