I suppose I could do some experimenting but thought I'd take the lazy way out and ask others their findings. I'm using Pharmacist's recipe for his highly-regarded cleaning fluid formula, and I'm mixing 100ml at a time. I'd like to add a colorant to make nozzle checks visible and I'll use some red dye from MIS. For 100ml cleaning fluid, are we talking just a few drops or a few ml of dye? And what quantity? If I add a few ml do I reduce the distilled water by the same amount? I suspect it's a matter of just a few drops in which case the influence on the percentage of the other fluids would be minimal.

(How'd I get the ranking of printer guru? All I do is ask beginner's questions!)

Just add a few drops of red into you mix till you can see it visually, this will work fine on your Epson printer, but a word of caution here because it can never be used in a Canon printer.

@The Hat :

How about calling me a Nu GuRu? <groan>

@Ink stained Fingers : Alas, I don't have any yellow.:( Wait... I do have some yellow which expired 3 years ago. It's from MIS, part of a set I used for an Epson Picture Mate. Label says it's for a 800 and is high-gloss compatible... I think those are pigment printers and I have a 1400, a Claria (dye?) printer. Would that work?

yes, such UV lamp will show you both dye and pigment yellow inks, it will make nozzle checks better visible in all cases. Claria inks are dye inks, but you could run a 1400 as well with pigment inks.

@Ink stained Fingers :

Well, I ordered that light from Amazon, it arrived today. Batteries included, even!

I had worked up a set of cleaning carts with Piezoflush, which is tinted a faint red.I was hoping this light might make the pale red nozzle checks more visible but no luck. Obviously I don't know much about the nature of light. However, I'm sure I'll use it in other applications, those using yellow.

Thanks for the tip!

Paul
