Where to Lubricate Canon PIXMA MX860?

I'll take off my hearing aid & keep the printer running as long as possible.
I bought a Canon Laser Printer LBP6230DW to print B&W. The toner carts are available for as little as $11 each from 3rd parties. They are not the same, but may be OK. Using the laser for most B&W should mean I will be using a MX860 for many many years-until the printer or I expire.

Of course, I now will have to sample the forum's wisdom in respect to using this new Canon laser from IOS and Android devices. The reviews suggest this laser will be a bear to get working well for those kinds of jobs. The good news was , a person found that a 3rd party app called printopia can overcome the remote printing need.

This forum has been the most helpful one I have ever worked with. Some forums have member that want to help but don't have any useful knowledge other forums have few folks who provide useful feedback. I was impressed that you folks actually searched for information to help me.

I still would like a good set of photos and matching instructions of REMOVING THE CASE OF MX860. If I could easily[well relatively easily] remove the case I might be able to locate the origin of the sounds and maybe could even fix the source. Being it is an older printer, I don't expect such instructions to appear. From time to I will search for them here and across the Internet. I will also keep an eye on this forum for interesting new info on Canon and other printers.

@vienna01 your not going to get away that quick, you know you’ll have to do the job some time so why not do it before the noise drives you crazy.

Nearly all of the Canon AIO printers are basically the same on the outside, so if you take another look again at the Drunkerchannel link below, it’s fairly easy to understand after a minute or two.

i did it on my MP830, so to change the waste pads. the MP830 is very similar to your MX860.

The picture in jimbo 123 post are after case removed. I had seen those but they are very clear. I WAS interested and still am interested [to some degree] in how to remove the cabinet. More & more I see it as not a job for me.
I live in Silver Spring MD. Is there a repair shop that might charge me as little as $100 to service my mx860 "baby"? Now I have crossed the line giving life to an inanimate object! Personification or anthropomorphism sounds less crazy.

the 2 side panels on my MP830 are easily removed, see below. your MX860 is probably similar, outlined in the service manual

- 4 screws in back
- 2 screws inside with top open
- push screwdriver into slot to release side cover

This forum is taking over my life. The great fast feedback drives my schedule-not complaining I am happy that I get answers so quickly and so USEFUL.
JIMBO123 THANKS for the photos on taking the sides of case off. I'll study them & see if I can understand them.
Now to return laser to Staples. I ordered the wrong printer. My fault. Staples delivers replacement in 1 day. They had no restocking charge[yet].
They offered to have UPS pick up the wrong printer. Their prices was same as the others[lowest].
I really will look to using Staples for anything I need to order. I was surprised.
Many others are good about this stuff but Staples seemed a bit easier to effect the changes I needed to make.
OBW: I bought the much complained about Canon LBP6030dw. So far I have NOT been able to get it to connect to my Mac[Maverick] and Router[Comcast}. Canon support has been exchanging suggestions to make that work. I guess fall back will use USB connectivity.
Afterwards I need to connect to external WiFi service.

@vienna Did you ever consider that it just might be a real Feckin mouse or worse her whole family…?

I dunno if it's been asked..... does it squeel all of the time during printing, just the starting up process or when paper feeding?

Thought I'd clod a spanner in the works. Canon printers are known to clunk and click some louder than others.... but never squeak.

Now I'm gonna go off topic, hoping to throw an idea.
I had a VHS video on the repair bench that just.... you've got it - squeaked and loud, it was a rhythmic squeak. I was troubled in finding the source so I got a plastic tube - the local barman might be helpful here, that's where all the brown stuff flows innit?.

I put one end to my lug hole then like a GP I prodded the other end around searching for the most loudest area..... lo and behold I found it, in fact I could feel it by just resting my finger on the culprit lightly - it was the take up clutch that drives the take up reel.

I use a white Molycote paste - normal grease or oil is no good, it has a better 'silky' feel rather than a sticky feel like grease, it does turn gray with use.
