When using my Canon Pixma MP190 printer to print a "Paint" file where I have selected "Adjust to 100% normal size", the full size page I was after printed last after cranking out 8 blank pages and three partial printed pages.

On the General page only "All" was highlighted (I could not select "Current Page", "Selection" or "Pages").

What am I doing wrong?

Hi @wolf001 and welcome.

Now the problem you have is not your fault because Paint doesn’t have an automatic % scalier.

When you use Print Preview you have very few options when the image you want to print is larger that the page you going to print it on.

Here are two examples the first shows a "Preview" on the left with a grey image with a dotted line around it, but if you notice the big X is not centred and some of that X is missing.

The " Scaling box 2 on the right shows the image at 100% and below that the "Fit to " shows the image is going to print on two pages.

The Second Example shown in " Preview " the same grey image but with the Bix X complete and so is the dotted line which represents the maximum size you can print on that size paper.

Now the "Scaling box " I have set it to 80% and the "Fit to " is now showing just one page, so if you follow these few steps the next time you want to print an image you’ll have little difficulty.

If you play around and adjust the % size on the right to make the Big X on the left fit in the Preview, then it will print using just the one sheet..

Happy Printing.. :)

Windows Paint exists in at least two different versions, a newer one with the ribbon design known from MS Office 2007 and newer, and an older one with a file menu like MS Office 2003 and older. The old version of paint is a part of Windows XP.

I had lots of problems with scaling in the old version, especially with scans, so I started to use Irfan View in stead. It is free-ware and found here. If you download it, then remember to also download the add-ons.

Thanks Hat and Peter for replies. I still could not get Paint to behave, but I converted a file or two to IrfanView (before I saw Peters reply) and that seems to do what I was hoping to do.

My Paint program is whatever came with Windows 7.

@wolf001, thank you for the update, but if you wish to continue to use Paint you’ll have to practice a little more to get it to print they way you want it too, it’s not the easiest Application to print with..

The Paint version from Win 7 is the new version. The old version from Win XP and older looks like this:
