New Canon Pro-100 question

I just got a Pro-100 to replace my aging Pro9000 MarkII which I've been refilling for several years. The going advice seems to be to not use the OEM yellow cartridge at all but use a cleaned CLI-8 cartridge with refill ink. I'm wondering if I can simply use a yellow cartridge from my Pro9000 (with a chip change) - I have an unused one.

Hi @Greatview and welcome, you see you have just given your first good bit of advice.

There is no reason why you can’t because the two cartridges are exactly the same and will work with the chip swapped over, however !

The ink colour will be slightly different so you will have to make a slight adjustment for that until you can get all the matching colour ink set and resetter.

Just make sure that the cleaned cartridge you use is not a Yellow one. It has been reported that no matter how well a yellow cart has been cleaned or flushed, there may still be microscopic bits of yellow ink in the cart. If this is true and new non OEM ink is introduced into the cart it may have a reaction with these microscopic bits and cause a clog. I too have a Pro 100 and when I ordered my refill kit from PC I was supplied a flushed/cleaned CLI8 cart to use instead of refiling the yellow cart that came with the printer. In this case it's better to be safe than sorry.

Well it can be done. I've been using the original flushed ( A special Way ) Yellow carts which has been refilled over ten times now and still not a single problem. But I am an experimenter and Crazy enough ( Maybe dumb enough would be a better description? ) to often use my printers as G. Pigs to prove or disprove theories. Having said that, I would still highly recommend the now accepted solution of simply starting off with a flushed CLI-8 yellow ( any color other will actually do ) and the CLI-42 Y chip filled with PC yellow ink!

And remember to top off when any cart reaches the LOW warning. That way you are simply replenishing the ink used up in the liquid chamber BEFORE the sponge begins to use up any of its share of the ink.
If you wait till you hit empty, you may run into sponge ink absorption problems.

There is a "Character" in the "Other" printing forum who shall remain nameless who has failed, or has so many problems refilling the CLI-42 ( By his own doing and over engineering things ) that he has practically tries to discourage all others from attempt it.
Just because he had failed he apparently thinks all will or should fail as well.
Refilling these carts is pretty easy and reliable if you simply follow a few rules.
