im fairly new to refilling ink cartridges, I do it to save money and also to recycle the ink cartridges as much as possible. But as of late with most of the hp cartridges i refill i started to get white horizontal lines through my text and also pictures i print. I read that this is called banding and its because I refill the cartridges too fast...I refill hp 60, 21 and 22 and my neighbour's canon 40 and 41. i use a syringe, is there anyway to rectify this problem with any simple household items or even if some expert techniques if recommended. I havent seen any solutions on google, so i am very grateful for any suggestions from y'all...Thank you for your time.

When refilling HP cartridges it's very important that you never let them run dry before refilling them, you just keep topping them off. They're very prone to burning out nozzles when run dry because air bubbles work their way into the fine passages in the printhead and it only takes a print or two with dry nozzles to burn them out. In fact HP seems to encourage you to run them dry by letting you print by simply pressing a button to acknowledge ink is low. I think it's done on purpose to trap air in the printhead and cause nozzle burnout thus discouraging refills.

You can try overfilling them and then blotting the ink that drips from them on a paper towel, it's important not to rub the printhead with paper towels as that can clog them. Another thing is to keep a rotation of two cartridges. The reason is after refilling the cartridge its important to let the ink settle at least overnight to prevent bubbles from working their way into the printhead passages which can cause banding and burned out nozzles. Doing this I've had black and color cartridges last me years and dozens of refills.
