I thought this would settle down after the CIS was installed and run for awhile but it's still doing it.

It's much more noticeable in person so I had to point it out, the scanner barely picked up the color differences. It's also doing it in Cyan, I can't tell if Yellow is also doing it. It's more like a single color band is darker than the rest of the row rather than the others not getting enough ink. Head alignment, maybe? It's a brand new printer, though.

I'd look at doing a manual printhead alignment on some good quality paper. That might well help.

Worry not re: responding... I've been in the swamp up to my eyeballs in alligators too... Fun!

What paper are you using? I had the same issue until I switched to "Presentation Matte", which eliminated the observed banding. You might try changing to that setting if you are using plain paper.

Run a manual alignment and it's important to use regular copy paper when doing so. The alignment assumes you're using regular paper, putting thicker paper thinking you're aligning more accurately by adjusting for paper thickness actually fools the printer into advancing the paper slightly less due to the thicker paper.

The printer doesn't band on higher quality paper settings but I kind of need it to work well on plain paper too. Part of the reason for the CIS was to do large(r) volume printing.

I do all my tests on basic copy paper, the scans were done on 28 lb inkjet paper just so it wouldn't wrinkle so badly that I can't even scan it properly. I'll try running an alignment test tomorrow. Thanks!

FYI, my 1100 banded on plain paper with OEM carts, so I doubt your ciss is a probable cause...

I'm curious about this...

1. How does the printer know what grade of paper you're using?
2. How does it adjust for it?

Are you assuming that the paper type has been set manually or that there's some kind of sensor in the printer that checks for printer thickness?

I would have thought that a higher quality paper would provide a more refined output allowing you to figure out the correct alignment without the blur caused by lower grade papers... but I'm reserving the right to learn something new here...

Most of the time you will get some banding at your lower speeds where there is not overlap or dithering taking place. Plus I bet you are using bi directional printing or High Speed. That will almost certainly cause the type of banding you are seeing. Aligment routinens will only work so far. I have to use at least Text and Image setting when printing on plain paper and I also choose the higher quality printing paper setting which is the next one after plain. Try turning off high speed and crank up the qulity a bit.

It does print better on higher quality modes (though you can still see bands if you look close enough). But the only reason I have this printer now (since it failed at being a sign vinyl printer due to the horrible, horrible color gamut) is for fast copy printing. :rolleyes:
