We've had our printer for several years without incident. However, it recently started to "spit" ink! Basically after we print a document and it begins the "after-print cycle" it spews/leaks a fair amount of ink into the document tray (ruining any paper that is still in the tray after the print). We thought it was a cartridge problem (because we had just installed a new 5 cartridge when we noticed the issue) but had that one replaced FOC by Office Max and the problem continues. We can see it leaking out - right in the spaces under the rollers where the paper comes out. It's in the exact same spot every time. Any thought would be appreciated.

Disassembly required to fix. One of the internal tubes has likely come loose.
trigger37 is the man for this.

Ferny! Oh my goodness - that is EXACTLY what it looks like! So frustrating!

So, how much does it cost to have someone take a look at it? Is it something we can do ourselves? Is it worth fixing or do I replace the printer? How do I reach trigger37?

If the waste ink tank is overflowing, is that easier to fix than if one of the internal tubes came loose, or is it essentially the same amount of disassembly?

I don't know how to reach trigger37. I hope he responds to my post or email, as disassembly looks potentially destructive if I don't do it right, and I don't want to disassemble more than necessary. If I hear from him, I will definitely let you know. If you figure out anything else, let me know.

All inkjet printers have waste ink tank. Canons are no exception. Canon waste ink tanks are very large and are filled with large pieces of foam to keep the ink from overflowing.

You are not wrong. You are an expert. You just need a little imagination.
