Where to drill hole for German Durchstich method?

I'm about to refill the cartridges for my MG6150. I found different information on where to drill the hole for the needle:

1. as close as possible to the bottom of the cartridge, straight in;

2. just below the notch on the sponge chamber, aimed slightly downwards.

Which one is to be prefered? With my MP640 I used the first method and I always covered the hole with a piece of adhesive tape. With the second method, apparently the hole doesn't need to be covered.

I appreciate your advise...

There is some lettering on the side of your cartridge that will help you get the right position.
If you look carefully youll see this:- > PP < so the position for you to put your hole
is right in the middle where I have marked it with an x > x < .

There is no x on your cartridge just PP but I think you get the general idea..

you can drill the hole anywhere on the ink reservoir side, but the closer you drill to the divider, the more ink you can fit into it.

The question was about the German refill method, not the older top fill method. Are you familiar with the German refill method?

Some things he says make sense and others are out of context. This is going to be a chore for Rob to clean up tomorrow.

To clear things up, i refill cartridges my own way. Before yesterday i had no idea what the German method was so i had to look it up to realize it was pretty much the way i already fill them. Seeing as how i work at a refill store where customers pay for my service, i drill the hole close to the divider so that the cartridge is completely full without any air bubbles.

I fill these cartridges every day and besides chip errors, i have never had one come back to the store.

The OP wanted to know about the Durchstich of German method of refilling. Neither of your answers appear to follow the Durchstich method which The Hat properly explained.

Maybe you use different terminology - divider - than the forum.

The OP's Canon cartridge has a sponge compartment and a spongeless or reservoir compartment. If anything on the cartridge, I would call the plastic wall between the sponged and spongeless sides to be the "divider". No hole is drilled or made otherwise in this "divider" as there already is a hole at the base to allow ink to flow from spongeless side to sponged side during use. The Durchstich hole is drilled on the short side of the sponged compartment by the ink ejection port, on the opposite end of the cartridge from the location of the chip. The recessed >PP< in the plastic of the cartridge is used to mark the spot for the hole (if this marking is still used with the OP's model of cartridges as it has been for earlier model cartridges).
