Best way to sell non-working printers? I have 3 Canons

1 Canon Pixma IP3000
2 Canon Pixma IP6000d

Best to sell on Ebay? Sell as non-working full units, or piece out the parts?

I would give them to charity and get a receipt for tax deduction. There are people who visit thrifty stores and will buy them. They are experts and know how to get the best out of such used printers, repair them if necessary. The printers will get a good home and be used. Everyone is happy as a result.

I would try to sell them on craigslist. Shipping costs make it prohibitive on eBay.

For used but still working printers yes Craigslist is the place to sell them. But for non working ones the chance of selling them on Craigslist is very limited. The list get hundreds of ads everyday. Your ads will be swamped in an hour and the chance of getting buyers to see it is very low. THe chance of a successful sell for a non working one is even more limited. It is effortless to send them to a charity donation and get a receipt that you can fill up yourself. Well it is free to advertise on Craigslist. You can only list it once a week though. Why not give it a try. Forget about ebay. I agree with you.

For a non-working printer, donation to charity is the best way.
People at Craigslist and Kijiji are looking for bargain. You won't get any money for a non-working printer. After picking up a few mint condition iP4500 printers from Kijiji ad between $10 -$20, I sold my sealed-in-box iP4500 for $200 on eBay a few weeks ago

Wow! I picked up a Yamaha surround sound amp at a electronics surplus store for $10. I found that the same amp was sold on ebay for over $150. The surplus store had an mp780 last time I was there. The price tag was $20. I passed it. I already have too many.

FYI, I called Canon and they were worthless. They gave me the # to 2 local authorized fix-it centers. 1 was $35 just to take a look. The other was I think $99 or $99 plus $75 for the sheet feeder. I didn't bother to write down the exact details once it was apparent the prices meant they didn't want me to have these fixed. Either way, it made it cost prohibitive. I understand they prefer you not fix it yourself, as they'd rather get you to buy a new one. It bothers me that the "system" must be so wasteful with printers and other consumer electronics. If they posted detailed instructions, a certain # of people would fix these on their own instead of dumping them in landfills. Why would anyone pay $100 or so to fix a printer only, when they can get a brand new All-In-One for around the same price. Apparently the "green" movement hasn't caught on. Wouldn't they get good corporate citizen reputation goodwill if they made an effort to make these fixable for those who cared?

One reason to pay to fix an old printer is that it is a lot easier to refill those printers that don't have chips in the cartridges and the ink level actually works in them. But you don't want to pay too much.

The Canon repair center in my area will take any printer and provide an estimate to fix it which if you decide is too much, you can let them recycle the printer and there is no charge but if you want the printer back, it's $35. I'll bet the first one would do the same but it sounds like the second one diagnosed the problem and let you have the printer back without charging you. How is that not being green?

The only BCI-6 printers that is worth getting these days is ip8500 in my opinion. You can still get new print heads for this printer. Most others the print heads are no longer supplied by Canon. That's what I heard recently.

So much for rumors--there are dozens of print heads for these older printers available on eBay. For example:

iP3000: QY6-0064
iP6000D: QY6-0050
iP4000: QY6-0049

I recently bought two of the QY6-0049 print heads from my local Canon repair shop. If Canon no longer supplies them, it must be because the speculators on eBay have bought them all up but their prices are the same as Canon's so what's the problem?
