My wife's Canon MP810 stopped working. I removed the printhead and found a rather badly burned connection at the right corner of the flex circuit where it is soldered to the contact board (the little green pcb that looks just like a computer keyboard). I ordered and received a new genuine Canon printhead and installed it. Now nothing happens with the exception of Error Codes B200 and 5020 being shown on the LCD. The ink tanks do not light up and the printhead unit doesn't move (though it can be slide back and forth manually).

The printer is out-of-warranty. Anyone have any ideas about what I can do to get this thing back "on line"?

Is there any sign of burnt around the connections area at the print head carrier?

Reset your printer:
1. Unplug power.
2. Press on/off switch for 10 seconds to drain any residual energy stored in the capacitors.
3. Plug power and turn on printer and hope for the best.

According to the MP830 Error List:

Error Code 5020:
Scanner lock switch locked. [5020] Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power
off and back on.
Turn the machine off, unlock the scanner lock
switch, then turn the machine on again.

I found a reference to the B200 error as a Votlage High error for ip4500. On another site, the B200 error was an Internal Sensor problem but no specifics were given. Another site just said Cannon shipped him a new printer without further explanation.

Thanx for the tips, guys. Sorry, I forgot to say that the scanner lock was always in the "off" position and I switched it back and forth to see if that had any effect and it didn't. However, I did not turn the printer off before shifting the lock switch as suggested by stratman. When I get back to that location, I'll give all your suggestions a try.

Embguy, I will reexamine the printhead housing for burns, but, when I took the bad printhead out there appeared to be no burning in the area of the contacts. I'll look again to be sure.

Thanx, again for the suggestions. BTW, stratman, would you kindly give me the url to the last site you mention (guy getting a new printer from Canon)? I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Sid:

Don't recall the website but do remember the printer was still under warranty, hence the shipped new printer from Canon. I think i searched google for "Canon MP810 B200" or some such.

I did find an interesting exchange on the German website druckerchannel.de. Take a look at the messages at http://translate.google.com/transla...Q7gEwBg&prev=/search?q=canon+mp810+b200&hl=en.

Google will automatically translate into passable English. Best if you can read German but you'll get a decent idea, especially on Page 2 which possibly explains the error codes foolowed on Page 3 with Service Mode instructions.

*EDIT*
Looks like Nifty-Stuff truncated the Google address, so here it is again where you'll need to change the beginning HXXP:// to HTTP://.

Thanx, stratman. Interesting exchange there on that German site.

Alas, nothing is working to correct the problem. I have gone over all suggestions and am nowhere. Woe is me :( .

Burned spots generally mean there is a high probably the printer will burn out any print head you put in it.

G.H. the only burned area was on the printhead, itself, as opposed to its contact area in the printer. The new printhead has suffered no similar problem, but, that could be because the printer has been essentially dead since the failure of the original printhead.

You mention "the German method" in your sig. Can you direct me to a source of more info? Thanx, and have an In-N-Out with extra fried onions on my behalf. Yummmmm!!!

How do you know your new print head has not suffered a similar problem? Have you put it in another printer to verify that it is working? I would advise caution doing this because these kinds of problems have been known to propagate from one print head to another printer. You don't want to try your new print head in a friend's printer only to discover that not only does your print head not work but now your friend's printer does not work. I'm not saying that this always happens, just that there is a potential risk.

Here is one place you can learn about the German method.
