Yesterday I was sent a new resetter, because the first one I ordered was DOA.
The resetting is just as easy like the famous Sudhaus Redsetter. Take a look:

The small blue panel is for aligning the smaller CLI-521 cartridge towards the resetting pins. Remove this if want to reset the bigger PGI-520 cartridge. I discovered you only need a small push to reset. Pressing too hard will cause the reset to fail !!!

The last picture shows the LED turning red after a succesful reset:

Best part of all: the battery can be easily replaced:

The cover is easily removed by just pulling it a bit. There are now screws and the lid is just snapped into the housing:

Just pull out the small circuit board and you can replace the battery:

I think Peach are the manufacturers, and their resetters are being sold by
Peach - a Swiss company with a UK web site,
TintenMarkt and some other German sites, and
Ebay (for example), shipping from Germany.

The small bit of plastic near the contacts looks like an on-off switch. Is this right?

Hi Ian, the small bit of plastic is indeed the on-off switch, as soon as the cartridge is pushed into the resetter it will automatically trigger this nodge and the resetter is switched on.

The advantage of this resetter is the ease to exchange the battery when it runs out.

Price in Europe: I paid 14.90 at www.tintenalarm.de + shipping costs (This is the company selling the excellent pigment text black in for Canon PGI-520/PGI-5Bk/BCI-3eBK: KMP pigment ink).

Any news on a resetter for cli-221's? It's been a long time coming, and a couple printer "generations" have passed ie ip4600 to ip4700. But I suppose if a resetter does become available it'll soon be time for canon to shrink cartridges yet again and maybe even put rfid chips in the carts a la lexmark. I shudder at the thought.
