Those things are not tanks. Maybe you've been lucky until now but Canon printhead nozzles are mechanically fragile. They're subjected to extreme thermal stress when printing and electrical failure is to be expected early or late. Also, they can be destroyed easily with aggressive cleaning methods, such as injecting liquid with a pressurized syringe from the inlet ports or soaking them in very hot water (let alone boiling ), bleach or other oxidants.
