Fun with a new printer so from my other thread I decide to get a new canon MG7530 it’s a Japan only model so I’m expecting some interesting times (printer it’s self was 73 UKP)

The highlights
  • Double sided print
  • Dual paper trays
  • Scanner / Copier
  • CD/DVD Printing
  • Wifi/Network
  • NFC
The bad points

  • Cheap feel (God does it feel cheap)
  • Printhead is screwed in

The Ink

It takes the BCI-351 color and the BCI-350 Black carts it also uses the high capacity XL version of these tanks too.

Now a set of carts from canon using the XL tanks is 35 UKP so I’m going to be using non-OEM which cost about 2.20UKP (The last of the big spenders I know ) These come with a chip and have a ink level function

The carts that came supplied with the printer are 351/350 not XL versions and are marked “Setup” I won’t be using them instead I will using non–OEM first keeping the carts just in case I need to send the printer for repair

The setup

I think I may have gripped the cart too tightly as it leaked one drop as I was trying to get the cap off the first ink cart didn’t happen on the other carts
6 minutes of setup and 15pct of used ink later it’s ready for the user setup

The display is Japanese so a quick look at the printer setup and bingo it’s English

The Software

To my dismay it installed as Japanese, now one of the reasons I bought a canon was the fact its driver would detect the O/S and install the right language of driver

The software suite is also Japanese
  • My Image garden
  • Ij Network scanner
Installing the driver kicks off the Wifi detection and using the WPS setup on the Wifi router it’s quick and painless

After a good 20 mins inside the printer preferences looking at the options without success I click in the “about” icon it’s shows the driver dll versions but also a language pull down and it’s English !!!

I removed and installed the “My Image garden” from the UK Canon site and the software is now right

The Test print
All the prints look ok and even my old canon CD-Print software works - Result

First thoughts
Well it's been a few weeks since the setup and it's been good ,Really can't get over the cheapness of the printer but it seems to handling it fine

The Inks have also been good and look great on the DVDs

@JoePineapples, Thanks for the good feed back as others in a similar situation may benefit from your detailed language setup, glad you’re happy with your new printer, and maybe you should get a second one just in case it doesn’t go the distance..

Thanks PeterBJ. That one video by 'Mike' was very helpful. I'm going to get mine out and see if it's just clogged or something. The price for replacement print heads I see is 2/3 the price of a new printer. So not sure I'll go that route.

Thanks again. Very helpful posts.
