Windows 7; HP ENVY 5530 Scanning:

When scanning a doc/pix/whatever,

1. Why does the scan decide to show the entire doc/pix/whatever grayed-out in the Preview pane, with a bounding box highlighting only one small portion of the scan?

2. Why, even when adjusting the bounding box to encompass the entire doc/pix/whater in the Preview pane, when the scan is saved to file, does the program decide to create any number of "files" by breaking up the doc/image/whatever into small segments -- so when one goes to the scan file there might be, say, 16 files saved + one file that is the complete doc/pix/whatever; there was no option to direct the scanner to do this, but it's just a totally useless outcome . . . then one has to view all 16 files in order to locate the one that is wanted. Really (!) a pointless procedure.

3. How does one adjust the scanner to merely do the simple task of scanning a single doc/pix/whatever?

Thank you / appreciated.

I don’t know anything about HP, so take this information with a grain of salt, but if your scanner is picking out objects and saving them as individual files then you may have set the scanner to OCR... Try setting to just copy...

Appreciate the response(s); figured out it's just a matter of becoming basically proficient in understanding what the cropping business does; seems to be doing what I wanted now. Thank you.
