@rodbam, I was thinking of a way to get you back to full printing health once again.

How does this sound, what if I were to send you the current print head in my 9500 and then I can install the new head that I have in reserve to replace it ?

If that is acceptable to you then PM me with your address again (I lost it) and I will give the head a bit of a clean and then protect it with some Propylene Glycol, so it will reach you still in a wet condition and ready for use...

P.S. I got a QY6-0076 spare for my i9950 but I’m hanging on to that like it was gold dust..Sorry..

:)A very generous offer from The Hat.

Nice to see you back rodbam.

Talking of gold dust, we have been having many Australian programs on TV here of late. This https://www.gold-prospecting-wa.com/gold-prospecting-locations.html, is one of the sites which might be useful. You could no doubt pop out into the back garden and collect up a few nuggets to buy a new printer.:)

Wow The Hat that is unbelievable, I'm over the moon. I'm stuck here with both printers only good for text & not photo prints & to get my 9500 printing photos again is manna from heaven. I couldn't find a PM button but I did find a conversation button so I have used that.
Thanks mate:) I really don't know what to say.
Gday Emu, Yes you can tell when I'm in trouble you see me back here:) I have been popping in now & then but most of the printer talk is the newer printers that I know nothing about. I think our printers are almost antiques now, a bit like me:)

Just let us know when you receive it and that it works properly for you, and hopefully it will last you for years more, it was never used OEM inks, just the old formula I.S. inks...

The PM thing and Conversation button is still confusing the hell out of me, but management likes it and so it stays.. :(

@Emulator Tasktron didn't have the i9900 listed on their system. When asked whether their print heads would work in an i9950 they replied "we are not entirely sure if the European version of the QY6-0076 part will be compatible with a US model i9900".

My question remains: "Is anyone running one of these print heads (shipped in the new boxes that don't list the older printers) in an older printer?"
Hello
Have you had success with any printhead that you've purchased recently for your i9900? I have an i9900 that I rely on for producing colors that sing. The pro 9000s are good but cannot come through for some of the i9900 magic. Did you ever try the printhead that you refer to in your post? Canon support is a far cry from what they were. That said, if you speak to someone who's been there along time they are nicer than the newbies. Please fill me in on your i9900 printhead information 🤔 thank you so much!

My wife and I now split our time between Florida and the northeast. We have an i9900 in each location. I used to print a lot of family photos, but our children no longer want prints unless it is a special occasion and they want a framed print. As a result, the printers don't get nearly as much use as they used to, and print heads therefore last much longer than they used to.

When print heads became hard to find several years ago, I stocked up on Canon replacements, buying four of the genuine Canon QY6-0076 heads from various sources. Since that time, I have replaced two failed print heads (dreaded blinking lights) with Canon replacements, and the 0076 replacements have worked perfectly. Over the same time period, I also acquired 5 spare i9900's with failed print heads on E-Bay, and took them apart and cleaned the sponges. These cleaned printers are stored without print heads in both locations so that if I have a printer failure it will be easy to activate a spare.

Because it is obvious (to me, at least) that these print heads don't last forever even when treated gently, I have also purchased four "new" print heads from China. I have yet to test any of them, but I plan on trying one when I get the next failure. I am hoping than when Canon obsoleted these parts that they sold (or the Chinese copied) the IP to make replacements, and that the units that I purchased will function the same as the Canon parts. I find it hard to believe that there are enough "refurbishable" print heads out there to resurrect, so assume that these are newly manufactured parts (they may not work, but they will at least be "new defective parts").

When we move locations, I just turn the printers off with no other preparations, and they have always given clean nozzle checks after the (automatic) cleaning cycles when we return. Because of COVID, the northern printer was recently inactive for 7 months, and the nozzle checks were perfect out of the box.

A few years ago I bought a few hundred assorted empty BCI-6 carts, cleaned them with the normal purge procedure, flushed them with the Glycerine/IPA/water conditioning solution, then blew them out and allowed them to dry. I have found they when they remain dry for an extended period (say, over a few months) that the sponges do not seem to properly "wet out" with ink. I now always flush them with water and then the conditioning solution, then blow them out before putting them into service.

I have also found that some of the inks can form a congealed skin at various places in the carts after a few years. At the first sign of this, I order a new set of inks and completely purge my squeeze bottles and carts, then refill with fresh ink.

And to answer your question in advance - no, I don't went to part with any of my stash.

Sorry for the ramble - I know that there are very few of us still using the old carts and printers.

So glad to hear back from you, thank you. I wasn’t asking, at least I didn’t intend to, for any of your stash. I didn’t know a thing about printer heads until a few days ago when the yellow ink was not showing up in a test print. Now that the printer head has been cleaned very gently in 1/4" of warm water, dried and replaced, now the entire row 2 is not printing. I am not getting any error messages or dreaded blinking lights. What is your take on this? Do blinking lights show up when it’s more than a clogged nozzle?

My so loved i9900 was once sent to a backroom Canon tech, he repaired it and sent it back, all his idea. Different ballpark at Canon then, that was about 7 years ago. A very nice old timer at Canon told me a few days ago that all of those printer heads were moved to another location. Question is where?

I was told by someone on the forum that because it’s the entire row, it is an electrical issue and futile to try to clean the printer head again. I ordered one of those Chinese print heads on eBay, don’t have it yet, but at this point confidence is not good as to the viability of this item. It is only in a mylar pouch, not the Canon box, although those can be fake too. That’s what I was asking you about, if you have any experience with one of those. Or do you have any suggestions for another i9900 aficionado?
I print cards and so far have not been successful replicating the colors in some of my work on the pro 9000. I very much appreciate your help.

This isn't for the faint of heart and will require a LOT of reading, but you might want to look at this (very long) thread. As I mentioned in my previous reply, I have seen ink congeal into a flexible glop, and over the years, I have seen this "glop" block the passages leading from the cart to the actual print head. I seem to remember that at one time yellow was especially susceptible to this problem. That is the background behind why I worked out a way to clean these passages. Be forewarned that these blockages can be terminal. I wouldn't even attempt to try these methods unless you have decided that the print head is toast and that you have nothing to lose. Also, read the entire thread to the end before starting because you can damage the ceramic print head if too much pressure is applied to it while it is attached to the black phenolic part. Good luck.
