how often the ink cartridges are made after a model is withdrawn
Good question. I can still buy Canon OEM CLI-8 and PGI-5 ink for my MP830, and there were other earlier printer models than mine that used that cartridge. I have aftermarket ink I bought 9 years ago, and my printer is well older than that. AND, Canon still sells BCI-6 ink (the vaunted chipless cartridges of old) for models made years before my printer was introduced.

I would say it is a good bet that the cartridges for your printer will be available for several years to come. How long no one knows.

Final update: I took it to Staples to recycle it. Sad loss of money, but was worth it to stop worrying.

As The Byrds sang... To every thing there is a season (turn, turn, turn).

Sad about your old printer. Rejoice for the new printer. The cycle of life continues.
