Hi, All!
I just purchased a second hand Epson 11880. The ink cartridges were about 80% full when I tested it. Upon delivery two of the cartridges had error messages. Is there a quick fix or a hack for these, or is the only option to buy new cartridges?
Any information will be helpful. Thanks!

Couldn't it be a contact problem ? Do you have a resetter, or can you use cartridges from your first printer instead for a test to check that where the problem is ? Are you planning for refill ?

Thank you for your response. That's what I was thinking, a contact problem, but I was hoping someone on the forum would have some advice on how to manage that. I don't know what a resetter is. I have ordered two new cartridges, but it seems a shame to waste all of that ink!

So, at the moment, I only have the cartridges that came with the printer. I know that they were working two months ago, when I saw the previous owner running proofs. When I finally get the printer to my studio and turned it on, the cartridge error message came up for one cartridge, then two. The printer will not allow me to continue without replacing the cartridges, as the door to the ink pops open.

Does anyone know how to either reset or fix/clean the contacts? I tried a dry lint free cloth, but it did not seems to make a difference.

I'm using a fiber glass eraser for contacts and contact pads on cartridges etc. You may visually inspect the contact pads at the cartridges in question for contamination, dust, some film covering the contacts. You may re/insert the cartridges several times to see whether that makes a difference. It is somewhat more difficult to get to the contact springs in the ink cartridge box, they are in the rear, and pretty inconveniently located for access from the front.

Thank you again for the tips. I have never heard of a fiberglass eraser.

I did try reinserting the cartridges several times. The second time, I had success with the light cyan, but a couple of days later it was coming up again.

The contact springs... hmmm... worth a shot? I could at least take a look. That could be a quick fix.

Yes, this looks like the fiberglass brushes I found. I'll order one.

You've been very helpful. I appreciate it! Thank you!

it appears to be an intermittent contact at the cartridge chip contacts, I hope you get it working
