Canon Pro-100 Nozzle Test Issue

After not using my Pro-100 for a couple of months because of travel, I printed a nozzle test before gearing up to do some printing. The photo magenta pattern had a gap through the center. After printing the nozzle test, one cartridge (grey) reported low, so I changed them all. Both sets are Precision Color refills. I ran a print head clean cycle, but problem persisted. Then two deep cleaning cycles -- no change. I let the printer sit for 24 hours and ran a deep cleaning cycle again. No effect. I have never had an nozzle issue before. I have not yet tried reseating the print head.

The result from the last nozzle test that I ran is attached. It is the same as the others.

Most likely an irreversible print head malfunction. This assumes you are using new or known working cartridges. Still, nature usually avoids straight lines and so ink blockage, or a poorly working cartridge is unlikely. You can try flushing with water and soaking the print head in water and Dawn or Fairy liquid dish washing soap, but I doubt it will help. More deep cleaning are probably unhelpful as well and may worsen the issue.

A new print head is the fix. Go on eBay and search for QY6-0084, the model number of the Pro 100 print head to see the prices. Do not get a refurbished one or one from China. Then call Canon Sales if you are in the USA as they often have the best prices.

The most economical way of obtaining a new Canon Pro 100 print head at the moment is to buy a new printer from either Adorama or B&H Photo. $60 after $250 rebate!

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately (perhaps unfortunately) I had a print head that I had salvaged from a Pro-100 with a damaged timing strip. I took advantage of the July 4th holiday to swap out the head and problem solved.
