Having tried repeatedly to unclog my green channel I've decided to try to live with/work around it. I have no trouble printing photos without green but anything with green creates banding in the print. And that's the part I don't understand, usually in my other printers (4800,7800) if one of the heads in clogged it just creates a color cast imbalance in the print, but not banding. Is the 9900 different enough from Epson's earlier models for this to be normal, or could something else be going on?

Thanks

Hi @Mike Earussi and welcome, first do a head clean, followed by a nozzle print, then try inserting an empty cartridge half filled with a cleaning solution in the green position, now print something green using Qimage till all of the ink is out of the tubing and no more green ink is visible on paper.

Qimage I believe is the best App. for testing individual colours, without the need to use all of the other colours, at this stage you can re-insert the original green cartridge and print till you have a good green printout.

Then try doing another nozzle print and check this current nozzle print against the previous one for any changes in the nozzle print pattern, this method is not just used for cleaning but it also insures you don’t have bubbles left in the print head. (Reuse the same sheets)

We have a member here who has come up with a very good cleaning formula, it’s a mixture of Propylene Glycol 10% / Isopropyl Alcohol 30% / Distilled Water 60%, you can mostly get the ingredients in a Pharmacy or DIY store, you can also add in a small amount of Windex, just use less water...
Or try this: - http://shop.inkjetmall.com/Small-Format-Flush-Kit.html

Unfortunately, I've already tried all those, including a head soak with 99% alcohol and inkjetmall's piezo cleaning kit (ran three full cycles), plus lots of head cleanings. As such I've given up ever unplugging the green channel. That's why I asked the specific question about why I'm getting banding on the 9900 when I don't on my other printers when when they have head clogs. If I could just get rid of the banding I could have new profiles made on my present heads and still get useful output.

Try set your paper setting in: other photo papers. this way the red (orange) and green inks are omitted during printing and the system falls back to the CcMmYK printing method. If you choose the Canon Photo Paper Pro setting, you will get the CcMmYKOG method. Actually you won't see much difference when properly profiled. Dye inks already have a great gamut. This is the reason why Canon decided to replace the Orange and Green inks with Gray and Photo Gray (Light Gray) inks and the result is the Canon Pro-100 printer.

I'm not sure how to apply your suggestion since I have an Epson printer, not a Canon one.

Hello, sorry didn't see it was an Epson printer. Because there is a Canon printer as well that is called i9900 that uses orange and green as well :)

I appreciate those who tried to help. I did have a chance to call Epson on Monday and was told that unlike 8 color printers, where the green and some other colors are made from a mix of other inks, the extra Green and Orange inks in the 10 color printers are pure and so when their channels are blocked they will create banding and that there was no way around that. C'Est la Vie.
