Let me show you how these 4 inks perform after the first week of exposure to a spring environment, some, not much
sun, freeezing temps, probably some ozone, all inks are exposed to the same environment. The test patches are
printed onto a cheap cast coated Labelheaven paper which lets the inks fade faster than PE papers as shown in the
previous test. I may redo this test later again on a PE Sihl/Netbit type paper to check whether the ranking between
the inks would remain.

___Ink_____Epson_106_______Fuji_DL_____Brother_BT5000______HP__GT52

__________C__M__Y__T_____C__M__Y__T_____C__M__Y__T_________C__M__Y__T (T=Total)

It is interesting to see that the Brother Cyan runs away, this is the 2nd test with this ink which can
exclude an accidental mixup with some other inks in the cabinet. The HP inks perform very well so far,
as well the Epson 106 inks , better than the Fujifilm DL inks already. I have not measured the gamuts
of the BT5000 and GT52 inks at this time, these two inks don't come with a dye black, only a pigment
black which I don't test on a glossy paper.
The HP GT52 inks are for new low end ink tank printers, with a HP thermal printhead, I'm testing all inks in a WF-2010W Epson printer, but don't know if those inks would run on Canon bubble printheads as well, somebody else would need to test that.

The Cyan of the Brother ink set fades pretty quick, worse than the HP GT52 ink, so my interest for the Brother ink is dropping fast.
I ran a profile with the HP ink on the Sihl glossy PE paper, the gamut is very good, about equal to the Fujifilm DL inks at mid luminance of L*=50, the HP inks come out with a wider gamut at lower lightness levels - all the way between L*=10 to 35 . That's measurable differences, but it does not imply that prints akways would look visibly better with this ink.

I started another test on the PE Sihl glossy paper with the above inks, it does not look good with the Brother Cyan - it just fades within days..... I think I'll just take it out of the running tests, Epson is supplying inferior inks with the L300 series, and Brother is following that approach - bad performing inks with their lower level ink tank printers - what marketing approach is that ?

That's interesting news for me, some more dye inks bottled by the printer manufacturers.

Canon also offers inferior quality in their ink bottles, no chromalife. My fading tests were bad on cheap cast coated paper, much better on resin coated - but not as good as chromalife cartridges or fuji DL

So I'm curious to fill some HP dye inks in my IP3000, just ordered the C-M-Y set...

I started another test with these same inks on a Sihl PE glossy paper, these are the readings after 1 week

___Ink_____Epson_106______Fuji_DL_____Brother_BT5000______HP__GT52
(on glossy PE Sihl paper)

__________C__M__Y__T____C__M__Y__T_____C__M__Y__T________C__M__Y__T (T=Total)

__week1___2--0--0--2____2--0--1--3____14--1--0--15_______7--0--0--7

The Brother BT5000 cyan again is the fastet fading ink in this run so far, the same result as above on
a cc paper, the 2nd week update on the cc paper is ready by tomorrow, but I don't expect any surprises.

Canon also offers inferior quality in their ink bottles,
Yes, I got that result as well some time ago in a separate test with the inks of a G1400 tank system printer.

These are the results on a cc Labelheaven budget paper after 2 weeks - the Brother cyan fades much faster than any other ink

___Ink_____Epson_106______Fuji_DL_____Brother_BT5000______HP__GT52
(on cc Labelheaven glossy paper)

__________C__M__Y__T____C__M__Y__T_____C__M__Y__T________C__M__Y__T (T=Total)

__week1___0--0--1--1____0--3--1--4____15--0--0--15_______1--0--0--1
__week2___0--0--0--0____0--4--2--6____26--8--0--34_______5--0--0--5

The Epson 106 bottled inks perform the best at this time , this ink is not much more expensive than the Brother inks, let's see
how the HP inks continue to perform. A trend now starts to develop, keep in mind that there are scanning variances and the mix of ozone and UV light varies with the weather from week to week.
(Numbers range from 0 - 255 as 8 bit binary numbers - a change of 1 - as above - is just 1/255 or 0.4% of the total range, so a difference of 1 does not have that much significance yet)

The epson bottled ink for L800 (original 6 colors) was quite good, as far as I remember our earlier tests, better than the 4 color set for the small L300 etc.
2 weeks results of 106 look promising.

Sadly all these epson dye inks cannot be used in a canon..

Now here HP comes into play, I just filled my testbed IP3000 with the GT-52 inks.
First nozzle checks and prints on plain paper are very very similar to the canon bottled GI-490 regarding the color out of the printer driver, a bit on the warm yellowish side. The old BCI ink would print out more neutral (printer in auto setting wiithout any correction or colormanagement) So I hope the GT ink is not the same as GI...

Here is a sort of competition advertising from HP

oh well, that's this funny marketing game - they could have chosen an L382 to compare with - with borderless printing. The difference in ink performance remains - lasts for months /decades .

Let's see how the HP inks perform in the next weeks, apparently better than some other inks , and usable in a Canon printer. The question at the end of the test would be whether that ink is worth the money for use in a Canon printer and offers a benefit over other inks. Other inks come as well with a color shift. That may be correctable with some driver adjustments , and with an icm-profile for sure. And this HP ink set is missing a corresponding dye black.

Another week is gone, this is the fading test of some bottled OEM inks on the Sihl PE glossy paper,
now after two weeks

___Ink_____Epson_106______Fuji_DL_____Brother_BT5000______HP__GT52
(on glossy PE Sihl paper)

__________C__M__Y__T____C__M__Y__T_____C__M__Y__T________C__M__Y__T (T=Total)

__week1___2--0--0--2____2--0--1--3____14--1--0--15_______7--0--0--7
__week2___5--0--0--5____5--0--1--6____23--3--0--26______12--0--0-12

The Epson 106 ink and the Fujifilm DL inks perform about equal at this time, the Brother cyan
is about useless, and the HP inks are somewhat better but not very close to the DL inks.
I take the Brother inks out of the test at this point , I have tested already enough fast fading inks in the past.
(Both the Brother and the HP inksets don't have a dye black, only a pigment black for normal paper)
